The Great Puff Mobile!

Armed with 3 straws, a sheet of paper, 4 lifesavers, and an unlimited supply of tape, students put their cooperative learning contract & their scientific minds to the test to create a puff mobile.
Where should we start?

Does this look like our sketch?

The wheels seem to be sticking to the desk...

Which design should we go with?

Hard at work constructing the frame.

How can we get it to go further with just one puff?

Revisiting the directions.

Is this the body we want?

A practice puff.

Constructing the sails.

The contestants.... interestingly enough, students this year opted not to use wheels.

Waiting for the big start... on your mark, get ready....

GO!

One puff! Which one went further?

How many puffs will it take to travel 6 feet? All this puffing is hard work!

Another pair of contestants take their starting positions.

Puffs away!

The winning designs! Students decided on three races: which design went the furthest in one puff, which took the least amount of puffs to travel 6 feet, and last (and the race that left students the most breathless) the timed trials! (Our fastest puff mobile made it 6 feet in only 6 seconds.)
