St. Mary's City Field Trip!

On May 18, 2006, the SLES fourth grade went to historic St. Mary's City. Let's catch up with Mrs. Perry's class as they arrive... (click on pictures to view actual size)

We started out meeting our guide.
"Remember everyone to follow the leader!"

She took us to the Indian village first.

In the men's hut...
"Men have three primary functions: Hunt, Fish, and Protect the Village!"

"Who's the man?"

"This isn't going to catch a very big fish!"

"Okay, you're the 150 pound sturgeon!"

Uh oh! Netted!

"Now the hunter would use the club to deal with the fish and feed the entire village!"

Making a dugout canoe is hard work... good thing the Native American's had a power tool... FIRE!"

Different types of deer skins in the women's hut.

Now we're off to the Plantation!

Time to make some rose water.

Ah! It's Master Spray!
"You're my new indenture! I've been waiting for you!"

Learning how to weed tobacco.
"Think my new indenture earned lunch yet?"

Off to town!

"Oh! I'm making sweet bags!"
At the Orderly...
"You look like a weary travler!"
Plumb tuckered out... traveling is hard work in the 1600s!

"Wait! You mean I'd have to share my bed with other travelers?!"

Buying shoes and a goblet for husband...

Who is the lady and who is the indenture?
Who is the wealthy land owner and who has yet to make it?

Uh oh... Looks like Mrs. Perry was not a very trustworthy colonist! She's had a run in with the law! 4 hours of humiliation - what will the villagers say?

Off to the Dove!
Measuring nautical speeds.
"One one-thousand, two one-thousand..."

This is not very much space to live in for FOUR months! Hardtack?! A chamber pot?! It took a brave soul to make it to the New World! Good thing she's up to the task.
Pulleys make life much easier for sailors!
"Who likes hard work?"

Our class, near the end of the day in front of the Dove.

St. Mary's City ROCKS!
Mrs. Perry (and class) would like to thank all of the wonderful parents & chaperones who came with us on this trip. We had a blast!
